Baremetal (kimsufi)
Since FreeBSD 14.1, FreeBSD is providing "BASIC-CLOUDINIT" images which are disk images which will use nuageinit (FreeBSD's native implementation of cloudinit)
They can be found here: https://download.freebsd.org/releases/VM-IMAGES/14.2-RELEASE/amd64/Latest
In the OVHCloud web manager, in the configuration of the your baremetal instances: In "Operating System", choose "An OVHCloud template".
- Type of OS: custom
- Custom: "Bring your own image - byoi"
- Add your cloudinit config in the text field.
- image: https://download.freebsd.org/releases/VM-IMAGES/14.2-RELEASE/amd64/Latest/FreeBSD-14.2-RELEASE-amd64-BASIC-CLOUDINIT.zfs.raw.xz
- type of image: raw
- checksum type: sha512
- checksum c08aaec2320399689fa133dcae2c078094936f40ceaf69f8ddbe3ea68f0ffe09154a154dc9b5b4d53603554a2c7fd862a64d4cb110f1400bdd0831e63272746e
- path efi: /boot/bootx64.efi
Public Cloud
Since 14.2-RELEASE nuageinit supports configuration over network which is the default for OpenStack, for 14.1-RELEASE it is necessary to check the "configuration disk" in the horizon wizzard.
First install the openstack cli (can be done via the horizon web interface also, but it is easier from cli
- Create an image which will be later used to setup your VM.
openstack image create --disk-format raw --container-format bare --file FreeBSD-14.2-RELEASE-amd64-BASIC-CLOUDINIT-ufs.raw "FreeBSD 14.2" --private --property distribution=freebsd --property hw_disk_bus=scsi --property hw_scsi_model=virtio-scsi --property hw_firmware_type=uefi --property hw_qemu_guest_agent=yes --property image_original_user=freebsd
Note the most important property here is, without this nuageinit will not work :
hw_firmware_type=uefi
Now from the horizon manager you can select your "FreeBSD 14.2" as a template to use to create your VM.
